George J. Behrens

George J. Behrens is a founding member and commercial real estate tax appeal lawyer with the law firm of Behrens & Truong LLC. Prior to founding Behrens & Truong LLC, he was a partner and attorney with McCracken, McCracken & Behrens P.C. He primarily represents real estate investors, commercial and industrial real estate owners, property managers and banks with REO portfolios. George’s practice focuses on commercial and industrial property tax appeals in the Chicagoland area.

During his more than 35 years of practice, George has represented clients at all stages of the Illinois real estate tax appeals process. He has appeared before countless government bodies, including:

  • Illinois Department of Revenue
  • Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board
  • Circuit Court of Cook County
  • Cook County Assessor’s Office
  • Cook County Board of Review
  • DuPage County Board of Review
  • Lake County Board of Review
  • Will County Board of Review

He also represents clients in rate protest litigation before the Circuit Court of Cook County. In addition to property tax appeals, George has counseled clients with respect to the real estate tax consequences and implications of their property purchase and sale transactions.

When not practicing law, George is extensively involved in USA Swimming, which governs competitive swimming in the United States. He has served as head referee for numerous Indiana Swimming State Championships, and holds National Championship Certification. A certified swim official since 1999, he has served as Northwest Indiana Official’s Representative since 2005, and is responsible for supervising and training approximately 120 USA Swimming certified officials. He also served as president of the Munster (Indiana) Swim Club from 1998 to 2003.
